Abstract: As predicted at the March CM&E Luncheon, the M&A market in chemicals is picking up. Recent evidence includes Bain Capital’s acquisition of Styron from Dow and the acquisition of Cognis by BASF, after 9 years of private equity ownership by Permira. Where are today’s opportunities and what are the key elements critical in making a transaction work?
Join friends and colleagues from the chemical, investment, legal and financial professions for a unique panel discussion on “the anatomy of a deal”. This special event is sponsored and moderated by Houlihan Lokey (the #1 rated M&A advisor for all US Industrial transactions by Thomson Reuters). Other sponsors to date include GenNx360 Capital Partners and Neil A Burns LLC.
The panel will examine current issues in M&A in the Chemical Industry from its own first-hand perspective. No airy trend-spotting from observers sitting in the stands! This session features only “players on the field” who will speak first-hand on what they experience daily in the world of Chemicals M&A. The five panelists are key players from each of the following areas: Investment Banking, Equity Investing, Lending, Legal and of course, the CEO. They will present, discuss and debate around some key questions, including:
a. What distinguishes a done deal from a failed deal?
b. How are the conflicting priorities of the parties resolved?
c. How to “change the rules” to achieve your deal goals and when to walk away.
This luncheon is part of the American Chemical Society’s CM&E Group's monthly luncheon series. The previous lunch with an M&A focus (in March featuring Tim Wilding of Oppenheimer) attracted a record attendance, so for this lunch we have moved to a larger room – still at the same Midtown Executive Club location (45th St. between 5th and 6th Avenues). As well as a stimulating program, we look forward to attendance by a great mix of chemicals executives, investors, lenders, lawyers and analysts. A number of business relationships were formed as the result of networking at our March event and we expect the same high quality interactions this time. Please book early as this event will sell out.
