Miguel de Oliveira, is Director of Global Innovation at Bunge, a global agribusiness and food company founded in 1818. Mr. Oliveira is a chemical engineer from UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul), Porto Alegre, Brazil. He joined Bunge in 1985 as Production & Control Manager. In 1990 he received a Ph.D. in Food Engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (Trondheim), worked as Product Manager for Bunge in Brazil, and became COO of the ingredients Division for Bunge Alimentos in 2000. After Bunge acquired Central Soya in 2002, Mr. Oliveira helped create the global leader in soy proteins, Solae (a JV with DuPont). He became Vice President of Meat Segment Strategy (2003-2004, St. Louis, MO), Asia Pacific Regional VP (2004-2008, Hong Kong) and Vice President of New Business Development. In July 2009 he came to White Plains, NY, to head global innovation for all four Bunge’s segments: Food, Feed, Fuel and Fertilizer.
