Speaker: Robert Westervelt, Editor-in-Chief, Chemical Week
Pasted Graphic 3
Topic: “A New World -- A View of the Post-Recovery Global Chemical Industry” (this topic was originally scheduled for June 3rd)

In 2015, when the chemical industry looks back at the current period, it will likely be remembered less for the impact of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, but more as the inflection point that hastened the shift of the industry’s center of focus toward China and the Asia region.   The Mideast, meanwhile, continues to transform the global petrochemicals production landscape and, in the first decade of the 21st century, will cement its position as the production hub for petrochemicals, most of which are destined for export markets in Asia and Europe. Given these dynamics, what are the challenges and opportunities facing the global chemical industry:
  • How is this emerging global trade pattern reshaping the chemical industry?
  • Who stands to benefit, and who stands to lose share?
  • How can a global business leader thrive in this environment?
Speaker: Robert (Rob) Westervelt was named Editor-in-Chief of ChemicalWeek in December 2006. Westervelt joined the magazine in 1994 as a reporter and editorial assistant. Prior to being named Editor-in-Chief, he was Senior Editor/news, responsible for Americas’ news and markets coverage. Westervelt has a B.A. in political science with a minor in journalism from Queens College (City University of New York). He is a member and a frequently invited speaker at the Societe de Chimie Industrielle - American Section, also based here in NYC, and he is a member of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
