Speakers: John Stekla, Director of Ethylene Studies, CMAI and Tison Keel, Director, Ethylene Oxide and Derivatives, CMAI
Topic: “Ethylene Derivatives - North America's Position in the Global Competitive Market"
The world’s center of gravity of olefins production has shifted away from the “Old Gulf” (of Mexico), to the “New Gulf” (Arabian/Persian). This trend has been long foreseen, but is coming to fruition. At the same time a major source of competitive advantage in petrochemicals, feedstock access and cost, is moving in unexpected directions.
This talk will address the implications of these shifts for North American petrochemical production, especially for the major derivatives of ethylene: polyethylene, ethylene oxide & glycol, and PVC, including such issues as:
• What is the current state of olefins supply/demand and trade, following unprecedented capacity additions since 2008?
• Can the North American industry compete successfully, or will we turn out the lights
Speakers: John Stekla joined Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) in 2007 as a Senior Consultant in Olefins, focusing on the North American ethylene market. John comes to CMAI with over 25 years of in-depth industry experience. His responsibilities include contributions to the monthly Monomers Market Report and the annual World Light Olefins Analysis. Prior to CMAI, John had a distinguished 27-year career with Chevron, during which time he served in management roles at several Chevron companies in the Americas and Europe. John graduated with a MBA from the Univ. of Connecticut, and also holds a BS in Chemistry from Clarkson College of Technology.
Tison Keel joined Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) in 2008 as a Director of Ethylene Oxide and Derivatives. Tison brings to CMAI over 25 years of in depth industry experience within the ethylene oxide and glycols product family. He recently revised and published the 2010 World EO & Glycols Analysis, and is now in the process of starting up a new Global Ethylene Oxide & Glycol service for CMAI. That service will be a new offering for CMAI, expected to kick off in mid-2010, and will publish monthly EO-EG Reports. Tison works closely with the CMAI Fibers, PET, Aromatics and Olefins consultants in developing and supporting this important component of the olefins and downstream value chain.
